In Memory of Shawn Patrick Kelley : October 17, 1980 - August 16, 2009
UPDATE: JUNE 2010
A lot has been put on hold since Shawn's passing nearly a year ago and I feel it is time to push forward as I know he would want me to.
When I started Cymbalism back in 2003 and took Shawn on as head of public relations, I knew he had a gift because we went from pressing 12"s ourselves to a full on UK distribution relationship with Nu Urban Music and countless releases from loads of established artists and a few new ones we helped break out into the scene. I am planning a tribute record for Shawn sometime in the fall of 2010. I want to do something spectacular that he would be in awe of so I am opening the floodgates for demo submissions to anyone and everyone in the drum n bass and dubstep scene.
I am hardly available for transfers via AIM (considering most of the time my auto receive doesn't work) so the best way to reach me would be via e-mail. Please send your submissions via sendspace or other file transfer services to tommie[a]cymbalismrecordings.com. Demos will be listened to and judged on the basis for release on a three to four pack vinyl set featuring full artwork and hopefully a full length CD with extra tracks unavailable on the vinyl and a mix cd as well as mp3 for all you laptop DJs.
I have already been in touch with a few big named producers who want to work on the project but nothing is set in stone at the moment. I know Shawn wanted to work with a lot of people we never had the chance to work with so now is the time to hopefully make that happen for him.
In other news, I will be finally getting the web store up for Cymbalism, Cymbalism Limited, Cymbalism Liquified and Cymbstep vinyl releases for sale in the next few weeks as well as new material forthcoming for the tribute project for people to check out way before the release happens. I am also planning a show here in Omaha to pay tribute to one of the hardest working guys I knew in the drum n bass scene around the anniversary of Shawn's passing with special guests t.b.a. In the meantime, I am still pushing our monthly drum n bass and dubstep night, Decibel, every first Wednesday of every month at the 415 here in Downtown Omaha. Feel free to come down, have a drink and enjoy some drum n bass and dubstep at the only place you can hear it in Omaha.
Keep checking back for more updates soon to come and thanks for all your support over the years and also the years to come from Cymbalism Recordings.
All the best!
